Hocking County Commissioners Announce Second Property Tax Rollback
Logan, OH –

At their October 1, 2025, meeting the Hocking County Commissioners acted on a recommendation of the Hocking County Board of Developmental Disabilities (HCBDD) to roll back a portion of their outside millage on property taxes attributed to the Board, which is used to fund, in-part, the operations of the HCBDD Board. The recommendation of the Board was to reduce their outside millage from 1.5 to 1.25 mills representing a 16% reduction in the Board’s outside millage of one of their levies.
This is the second property tax reduction in as many months. In September the Commissioners acted on the recommendation of the Hocking County Budget Commission to reduce the inside millage rate attributed to the County from 3.5 mills to 2.7 mills, representing a greater than 22% reduction in inside millage.
“These millage reductions are a responsible and proactive step to help protect taxpayers from higher property tax bills caused by the triennial valuation increase,” the Commissioners said in a joint statement. “We are committed to balancing the county’s budget needs while ensuring fair and reasonable taxation for our residents. We thank the Hocking County Treasurer, Hocking County Auditor, the Budget Commission, and the Board of Developmental Disabilities for their work on this issue.”
The decision follows a review of county property tax budgets by the Hocking County Budget Commission, and a review of internal funding needs by the Board of Developmental Disabilities, which considered adjustments to maintain revenue stability while providing relief to property owners.
The Commissioners emphasized that the county remains committed to fiscal responsibility, maintaining essential services, and continuing to invest in the community’s future.

### About Millage
County Inside millage refers to property tax millage rates that can be levied without voter approval, limited to a total of 10 mills countywide under Ohio law. The rate is applied to property

values as determined by the county Auditor. Inside millage is different than outside millage, which is voted on by the people of Hocking County, and makes up the bulk of property taxes in Hocking County.
